In ancient days there were two great swordsmiths, true masters of their craft, Muramasa and Masamune. Muramasa bragged of the superiority of his blades over those of Masamune and challenged him to a contest concerning who would craft the greatest sword. Muramasa crafted his sword and named it Juuchi Yosamu. Masamune crafted his sword and named it Yawarkai-Te. The challenge was to place each sword in a stream to see what it would cut. Muramasa placed his blade in the stream first and it cut the stream in half. Not only was the stream cut in half, but all that came down the stream - leaves, fish, waterfowl, and the air that flowed over the water. Nothing which past was left uncut. Then it was Masamune’s turn and Yawarkai-Te also cut the stream in half, but let all else pass undisturbed.
